GOLF TOURS

BERNOLAKOVO - BLACK RIVER ( BRATISLAVA )

Bernolákovo is the first course in Slovakia which was created after 1990. At the beginning it was a nine-hole course and nowadays it is a golf area with master eighteen holes. The course is situated near the capital of Slovakia - Bratislava in the distance of five kilometres. The beginning of the modern history of golf in Slovakia connected with this place is dated back to 1993. At first an amateurish meadow was created. Golf struck its roots in Slovakia and it has been developing.

A master course with eighteen holes called Black River is, thanks to its rating, one of the most demanding courses in Europe. Its rating is 79.5 for the Czech Republic and 155 for Slovakia, the length from white tees is 6,483 metres. Par of the course is 73. Also its handicap proves its demandingness. For yellow tees the bonus for men is from four to seventeen extra hits, women have five to seventeen extra hits.

First six holes are a part of the original course called Park and they are situated in a park of a baroque mansion, the others are situated behind river Čierná voda. This is where the English name of the course comes from. The longest but not the most difficult hole is Nr. 9 of 551, or more precisely 465 metres. The most difficult hole is Nr. 12 which has a double dogleg. There are large bunkers in the first break making placing the ball to a good position for next hit difficult, in the second one there is a water hazard leading to green. It is difficult to choose the most interesting holes because each of them, in this course, has all attributes which a course can offer to golfers. The play itself is not a battle between golfers but between a golfer and the course.

The course is used by the Bratislava - Bernolákovo G&CC.

GREY BEAR TALE ( LOW TATRAS )

The course called Grey Bear was finished in 2002. It is proud of its nickname"“the first Slovakian eighteen" but it also has, as one of a few courses, particular holes named, whereas the names describe their features.

The course consists of two types. Some the holes are situated in a free meadow with gently sloping terrain, the other holes are lined with high trees of wood and are steeper in terms of profile. There are also a few water hazards which, besides sand bunkers, make golfers' life difficult. The holes are designed to create two circuits, i.e. teeing grounds Nr. 1 and 10 are near greens Nr. 9 and 18. Yellow blocks are replaced by blue ones for men and they are 5,927 metres long. Women play classically from red tees and the total length is 4,804 metres. Six holes lead gently up, then golfers get back down to the start of play, the following holes will show physical condition because they lead up and down steeply.

The most difficult hole is Nr. 15 called Ski which is 551, or more precisely 488 metres long, par 5. On the other hand, the easiest hole is Nr. 2, appropriately called Short. It is par 3 of 116, or more precisely 88 metres. First nine holes have par 36, the second part of the course has par 35. It is 71 in total.

It is a demanding course and, according to the handicaps, it disadvantages all golfers. This is a domicile of the Tále GC.

PIESTANY ( WEST SLOVAKIA )

The beginning of golf in Piešťany started two days before the beginning of World War I. The course was inaugurated on 26th July 1914 on the Kúplený island. It was a socially important event and even an air show took place on this occasion. The course became desolated during the war but after it finished, it was successfully recovered. Important firms and individuals helped, e.g. the first green is named Masaryk's and Ringhoffer's due to it. At that time it was the fourth course in Czechoslovakia, together with the ones in Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně and Prague and it was the period of the biggest expansion of the Piešťany golf club when people from all over the world were coming to the spa.

At that time a nine-hole course was 2,652 metres long and there was also a clubhouse for golfers. In 1948 the course was closed. The modern history is dated back to 2004 when, right after ninety years, the local golf club was established and, at the same time, a new golf course with nine holes was opened.

The course is of a flat park type with length of holes between 94 and 416 metres, or more precisely 78 and 379 metres. The most difficult hole is the longest dogleg, par 5, the easiest hole is the fifth hole, the shortest one of the course. The course is quite easy and takes hits off, but it is good for playing. There are also, besides the clubhouse, a driving range, putting green and chipping green.

The course is a domicile of the Piešťany Spa-GC golfers.
